Athletes Commission Needed!!

For years I joked about starting an "Athletes Commission"  but I think it is really necessary.   I think technically the members need to be "active" athletes.  That being said,  all of you may need to "compete" in at least one meet a year.

I will find out what we need to do to make it official.  If we can make it a real thing with several athletes in different sports, then as a whole we can have some power and the Olympic Committee Must take us seriously.

Let me know your Thoughts.

Shoes/Equipment

I have occasionally sent down shoes/spikes to the association.   I think we can do a lot more.

My Cousin and Uncle who own Johnson's Hardware have said we can use their freight forwarders out of Miami to send equipment.  There is some paperwork that will be necessary to avoid paying duty.  (we may need to coordinate this with the association)

What equipment do you think is most needed?

Jumps facilities that kids can actually use!!

I think we all agree that the national stadium is not being used properly, it is also too far for many young athletes from the north.    I have been thinking about a possible solution.  I think through sponsorship from the larger companies such as M&C, CO WIlliams, ect.   We can raise enough money to build 3 different Jumps training centers.   It would consist of about a basketball sized rubberized surface.  There it could be used for Highjump, Long/Triple,  Pole Vault, a shot put ring, and of course it could be used for sprint and hurdle drills.

I think we can get land leases from various people,  maybe put them on school properties.  We can then make these facilities available for anyone to use.  I think the best idea would be to provide keys to club coaches,  this way we can lock up the pits, lock up the sand (so nobody steals it out of the LJ pit!)

I am sure I can get some decent discounts from UCS/Spirit on equipment.

What are you recommendations for locations?

What's Next for St.Lucian Track and Field?

Hey Guys,
I think that we need to find a way to support the club system in St.lucia.  By doing this we can help the clubs operate on their own, without headache from the association.  Obviously with the Associations support would be the best solution however I think they will only get in the way and prevent progress.  We need to build up the clubs, and then from there we can get control of the association.  What do you guys suggest?

Welcome to St.Lucian Olympians Blog

Welcome Olympians,
we are such a small group, we all need to make an effort to stay in touch.  Although most of us no longer live in StLucia we can all still contribute to the Olympic movement.   Please express you thoughts and ideas on how we can advance the state of sports programs in St.Lucia

Kind Regards
Dominic
